SERP Snippet Preview
Type a title and description, or load them from a URL, and see how Google shows them on desktop and mobile.
Widths are measured in Arial at Google's sizes. Google may also rewrite titles and descriptions.
Why pixels, not characters
Google cuts titles by width, not by letter count. A title of wide letters (W, M) gets cut sooner than one of narrow letters (i, l). Desktop titles fit about 600 pixels; descriptions about 920 pixels on desktop and 680 on mobile.
What makes a good snippet
Put the main keyword near the start of the title, keep the brand at the end, and write the description as a short pitch that answers the search. Google may rewrite either one, but a clear, accurate snippet is usually kept.
Questions
How long should a title tag be?
Aim for 50–60 characters, or under about 600 pixels wide. Longer titles get cut off with an ellipsis.
How long should a meta description be?
About 120–155 characters. Google shows up to roughly 920 pixels on desktop and less on mobile.
Will Google always show my description?
No. Google often picks text from the page that better matches the search, but a good description is still used much of the time.
