Instagram Bio Ideas: Examples for Businesses, Creators and Indian Brands

Copy-and-adapt Instagram bio ideas for shops, cafés, salons, D2C brands, freelancers and creators, plus short and aesthetic bios, Hindi and Hinglish bios, and how to use your link in bio.

You've opened Edit profile, tapped the Bio box, and now you're staring at it. You know what you do. You just can't fit it into a few words that sound good. So you type "Welcome to our page 🙏", save it, and promise to fix it later.

This post is the "later". Below you'll find Instagram bio ideas you can copy and adapt: for shops, cafés, salons and D2C brands, for freelancers and consultants, for creators, short and aesthetic bios, Hindi and Hinglish bios, and how to use the link in your bio. Every example is written as a template. Swap in your own details and it's done.

If you want the theory behind a good bio (and bios for other platforms), our guide on how to write a social media bio covers that. This post is the swipe file.

What makes a good Instagram bio

Instagram gives you up to 150 characters for your bio, and anyone can see it, on or off Instagram. That's about one long sentence or three short lines, so every word has to work.

A good Instagram bio answers three questions in a few seconds:

  • What do you do, or what do you sell?
  • Why should I pick you (proof, location, personality)?
  • What should I do next (order, book, DM, tap the link)?

Three other parts of your profile work with your bio, and they don't count toward the 150 characters:

  • Your name field. This shows in bold above your bio and in search results. Use it for your name plus what you do, such as "Meera | Bridal Makeup Pune", so people who search for a makeup artist in Pune recognise you at a glance
  • Your links. Instagram lets you add up to 5 websites to your profile, and you can choose their order
  • Your profile picture. A clear logo or face, centred, because it shows as a small circle

On a business or creator account you can also show a category label and contact buttons, so your bio doesn't need to repeat your phone number.

The Instagram bio formula (3 lines)

Almost every bio below follows the same three-line formula:

  • Line 1: what you do and who it's for
  • Line 2: proof or a detail that sets you apart (years, city, a number, a promise)
  • Line 3: a call to action, ideally pointing to your link

Here's the formula filled in for a home baker:

Eggless cakes & brownies, baked fresh in Indore 🎂 | 2,000+ orders since 2021 | Order on WhatsApp 👇

Line one says what and where. Line two gives proof. Line three tells people what to do. Use real numbers only: if you don't have a big one yet, use a detail instead ("baked to order, never frozen").

Write your bio, then read it as a stranger would. If they can't tell what you do and what to do next, cut words until they can.

Instagram bio ideas for small businesses

Small business bios have one job: get people to visit, order or message. Lead with what you sell and where, and end with how to buy.

Shops and local stores

  • Handloom sarees & dupattas from Varanasi 🪡 | Ships across India | New drops every Friday 👇
  • Your neighbourhood stationery shop in [Area], [City] ✏️ | Open 9 am to 9 pm | Call or DM to reserve
  • Phone accessories at honest prices 📱 | Visit us at [Market], [City] | Shop online 👇
  • Kids' clothes that survive the playground 👕 | Sizes 0 to 12 | Free exchange in store
  • Second-hand books, ₹99 onwards 📚 | [City] | DM "LIST" for this week's arrivals

Cafés and restaurants

  • Filter coffee, fresh dosas & slow mornings ☕ | [Area], [City] | Open 7 am to 11 pm
  • Small-batch coffee, roasted in-house 🫘 | Pet-friendly patio | Book a table 👇
  • Home-style Bengali thalis 🍛 | Lunch and dinner | Order on Swiggy or Zomato 👇
  • Burgers worth the drive 🍔 | [City] | Tag us to get featured
  • Pure veg café & co-working tables 🌿 | Free Wi-Fi | Menu and timings 👇

Salons, spas and beauty

  • Hair, skin & bridal makeup 💇‍♀️ | [Area], [City] | Book your slot 👇
  • Unisex salon, open 7 days ✂️ | Walk-ins welcome | WhatsApp for appointments
  • Nail art you'll want to screenshot 💅 | By appointment only | DM to book
  • Bridal makeup artist, [City] 💄 | Weddings across [State] | Enquiries 👇
  • Ayurvedic spa and massages 🌿 | Couples packages | Book online 👇

D2C brands

  • Clean skincare made for Indian weather ☀️ | Dermat-tested | Shop now 👇
  • Millet snacks, no maida, no palm oil 🌾 | Delivered across India | Shop 👇
  • Handmade soaps with cold-pressed oils 🧼 | Plastic-free packing | Order 👇
  • Everyday cotton kurtas, sizes XS to 4XL 👗 | Free returns | New collection 👇
  • Small-batch masalas from [Region] 🌶️ | Ground fresh every week | Shop 👇

Notice that none of these say "Welcome to our page" or "Official account". People know it's your page. Use the space to tell them what you sell.

Use only claims that are true for your business. Words like "dermat-tested", "organic" or "best in the city" need to be accurate, and in some cases provable. Keep it honest and you'll never have to edit it in a hurry.

Bio ideas for freelancers and consultants

Freelancer bios work best when they name a specific client and a specific result. "Graphic designer" is a job title. "Logos and packaging for food brands" is a reason to hire you.

  • Logos & packaging for food and beverage brands 🎨 | 60+ brands | Portfolio 👇
  • I write website copy that turns visitors into enquiries ✍️ | B2B & SaaS | Book a call 👇
  • Wedding & pre-wedding photographer 📸 | [City] + destination | Dates for 2027 open 👇
  • Instagram content for cafés and salons 📲 | Reels, shoots & captions | DM "MENU"
  • Chartered accountant for startups & freelancers 📊 | GST, ITR, compliance | Free 15-min call 👇
  • Wedding planner, [City] 💐 | Intimate weddings under 200 guests | Enquire 👇
  • UI/UX designer for fintech apps 🧩 | Ex-agency, now independent | Case studies 👇
  • Fitness coach for desk workers 🏋️ | Online plans, no gym needed | Free plan 👇

If you don't have numbers yet, use a specific detail instead: the niche you serve, a past employer, a type of project, or what clients say about you. A sharp niche beats a big number.

Instagram bio ideas for creators

Creator bios are about what people get if they follow. Tell them the topic, the style and how often.

  • Budget travel across India 🎒 | Trips under ₹10k | New Reel every Tuesday
  • Easy veg recipes in 15 minutes or less 🥘 | Hostel-friendly | Recipes 👇
  • Personal finance in plain Hinglish 💸 | No jargon, no stock tips | Free guide 👇
  • Bookish in Bangalore 📚 | Honest reviews, Indian authors | Reading list 👇
  • Tech explained for your parents 📱 | Tips, scams to avoid | Ask me anything in DMs
  • Desk-to-runway outfits under ₹2,000 👗 | Size-inclusive | Shop my looks 👇
  • Gardening on a Mumbai balcony 🌱 | Plants that survive monsoon | Plant list 👇
  • Indie music covers 🎸 | Requests in comments | Spotify 👇

If you post collaborations, add one line for brand enquiries: "Collabs: [email]" or "Business: DM". On a creator account you can also add an email contact button instead.

Short and aesthetic Instagram bios

Not every profile needs a sales pitch. Personal accounts, photographers and artists often want something short and calm. A few ideas:

  • Collecting sunsets & second chances 🌅
  • Chai, books & slow Sundays ☕
  • Somewhere between the mountains and the sea 🏔️
  • Mostly film, sometimes words 🎞️
  • Less perfect, more real ✨
  • Small moments, saved 📷
  • Plants, poems and too many playlists 🌿
  • Learning, unlearning, repeat 🔁

A few tips for aesthetic bios:

  • One idea per line. White space looks calm; a crowded bio doesn't
  • Pick one or two emojis that match your feed's colours
  • Fancy fonts from font-generator sites can look nice, but screen readers often can't read them, and they may not show up in search. Use them for a word, not the whole bio

For a business, an aesthetic line works best as line two, after you've said what you do.

Hindi and Hinglish bio ideas

A lot of Indian audiences scroll in Hindi or Hinglish, and a bio in their language can feel warmer than English. Write the way your customers speak.

Hindi bios

Hinglish bios

  • Ghar jaisa khana, office tak delivered 🍱 | Order karo 👇
  • Saree lovers ka adda 🥻 | New stock har Friday | DM karo
  • Chai, chaat aur thoda gossip ☕ | [Area], [City]
  • Paise bachao, smart invest karo 💸 | Simple Hinglish mein
  • Bas ek Reel aur... phir padhai 😅 | Student life, unfiltered
  • Fitness without the drama 💪 | Ghar pe workouts | Free plan 👇

Mixing is fine too. Many brands write line one in English (for search and clarity) and line two in Hinglish (for personality). For example: "Handmade candles, [City] 🕯️ | Har mood ke liye ek khushboo | Order 👇".

Whatever script you use, check how the bio displays on your phone after saving, especially if you mix Devanagari, English and emojis, and make sure it still fits in 150 characters.

Bios with emojis (and when to skip them)

Emojis work like bullet points. One at the start or end of a line makes a bio easier to scan. Use them with a purpose:

  • One emoji per line, or fewer
  • Pick emojis that mean something: 🎂 for a bakery, ✂️ for a salon, 👇 pointing to your link
  • Avoid long strings of emojis. They eat into your 150 characters and look cluttered
  • Don't use emojis to replace key words. "📍 Pune" is fine; "🍕🍔🥤 near 🏫" is a puzzle

Skip emojis entirely if your brand is formal (law firms, financial advisers, B2B services) or if your audience includes people who use screen readers, which read every emoji aloud.

Adding a link in bio

Your bio tells people what to do; your link is where they do it. Instagram lets you add up to 5 websites to your profile and choose their order, so put the most important one first.

What to link, by type of account:

  • Shops and D2C brands: your store, a WhatsApp order link or your bestsellers page
  • Cafés and restaurants: your menu, delivery app page or table booking
  • Salons and service businesses: your booking page or a WhatsApp chat
  • Freelancers: your portfolio or a call-booking page
  • Creators: your latest video, a free guide or your shop

Make the call to action in your bio match the first link. "Book your slot 👇" should land on a booking page, not your homepage.

If you have more than a handful of things to share, a link-in-bio page lets you put them all in one place and change them without touching your profile. Skyfliq's Link Hub includes link-in-bio pages, plus short links and QR codes that show which posts bring clicks. Our link in bio guide explains how to set one up and what to put on it.

Write your own bio in 5 minutes

There's no Instagram bio generator on this page, but you don't need one. Use this quick process:

  • Write one line: "I/We [do what] for [who]." Make it specific
  • Add one proof or detail: a number, your city, years of experience, or a promise
  • Add one action: what to do and where (👇 to your link, "DM to book", "Order on WhatsApp")
  • Count the characters. If you're over 150, cut adjectives first
  • Put your name plus what you do in the name field
  • Check it on your phone. Does it read well in three lines?

Then test it. Change your bio, keep everything else the same for a couple of weeks, and watch your profile activity in Instagram Insights. If more people follow or tap your link, keep it. If not, try a sharper first line.

The short version

You have 150 characters. Say what you do and for whom, add one bit of proof, and end with an action that points to your link. Use your name field to say what you do, keep emojis to one per line, and write in the language your customers speak, whether that's English, Hindi or Hinglish. Pick a template above, make it yours, and change it whenever your offer changes.

Frequently asked questions

How many characters can an Instagram bio have?

Instagram allows up to 150 characters in your bio. Your name field, website links and contact buttons are separate, so use the 150 characters for what you do, one piece of proof and a call to action.

How many links can I add to my Instagram bio?

Instagram lets you add up to 5 websites to your profile and change their order. Put the most important link first, and match it to the call to action in your bio. If you need more, use a link-in-bio page.

What should a small business write in its Instagram bio?

Say what you sell and where, add one detail that sets you apart (a number, your area, opening hours or a promise), and end with how to buy: order, book, DM or tap the link. Skip lines like “Welcome to our page”.

Can I write my Instagram bio in Hindi or Hinglish?

Yes. Instagram bios support Hindi in Devanagari as well as Hinglish in Roman script. Write the way your customers speak — many Indian brands use English for what they do and Hinglish for personality. Check how it displays after saving.

Should I use emojis in my Instagram bio?

Use one per line or fewer, as visual bullet points or to point at your link. Skip them for formal brands, and avoid long strings of emojis — they use up characters and screen readers read each one aloud.

Is there a free Instagram bio generator?

This guide doesn’t include a generator, but the three-line formula does the same job: what you do and for whom, one piece of proof, and one action. Pick a template from the lists above, swap in your details and check it fits in 150 characters.
